Does it seem like she's (32F) pushing me (34m) away?

So there's a good friend of mine who i met around five years ago and hung out with for about six months, but due to unforeseen life circumstances that would be the last time we hung out, so it's been about four years since i've seen her in person.

the past four years we've kept in touch through messaging and lately emails, however 2025 was the least we've talked... but she reached out in early December and sent me an email..

-

the email was very brief, and she said "I could tell you about life, but i always feel as though it’s a long complaint and I don’t want to burden you with that."

and then she told me me that life is very difficult and that she's struggling mentally... at the end of the email, she said,

"but i would like to hear how you're doing, very well i'd hope. happy holidays, hope this message finds you well"

and she put a nickname of hers at the bottom of the email, which is a reference to something i gave her on this amazing trip we went on when we hung out a few years ago, something she hasn't said to me for a few years.

... and then one week later she sent me a text notifying me that she sent me an email, and she said: "hey, i sent you an email. Just wanted to let you know, not sure if you got it. Hope all is well."

-

i responded to her email five days later, in late December... and in an effort to be more personable with her, i wrote a lot in my email... she wanted to know how i was doing, so i just gave her the most thorough update and told her about some meaningful music and movies i've enjoyed this year and shared the meaning behind them, what i'm up to day-to-day, some cool things i did with a friend of mine recently,

and then i added some videos to this youtube playlist i made her a few years ago... just some songs and videos to hopefully comfort her during this tough time in her life.

and then i just asked her what she's going through lately, and how she's doing.

it took me many hours to write this email and choose songs for her playlist... i enjoy writing and am a perfectionist, and wanted everything to flow properly and be concise without repetition.

we had just been distant for a while, and i wanted to talk more meaningfully.

-

in early February my friend responded over text and said something like: "sorry i haven't resonded, i haven't forgotten. i haven't had the mental energy and capacity to give you the response you deserve. Hoping for better days. Hope you're doing well"

i know i wrote a lot, so i was fine with this... she expressed in her email that she wanted to know how i'm doing, and i did just that in lots of detail, and also encouraged her and made her that playlist.

-

my mindset when i wrote my long email was that, since she's going through a lot, she might enjoy the pleasant distraction of hearing me ramble on about things i'm passionate about like music and movies, things that excite me and fun times i've had recently...

and then receiving a playlist with songs and a couple videos that i know will uplift her...

followed by me showing concern for her and asking her how she's doing and why she's struggling mentally, opening the door for her to express how she's doing and express feelings so that i can respond and give her emotional support like i usually do with her.

it takes about 10 minutes to read through my email, so i wrote a lot.

i think for someone like her going through a difficult time, that my email would be a welcome alleviation to her difficult times...

-

now in recent years, i know that there's a few times where she would reach out during times of crisis... her life is very chaotic and stressful... i've seen her do anything she can to get attention and support during difficult times... posting on social media, reaching out to multiple people..

and it worries me that back in early December when she sent me that email and follow-up text, that she was in the midst of a crisis, and reached out to multiple people, me being one of them,

and that she overreacted in the heat of the moment, and/or no longer needs my emotional support, and now is drifting away until some other crisis comes up.

she's a very caring person who has previously expressed that she never wants me to feel like she's using me... i know this... but i can't help feel this way.

--

and also, for the first time in well over two years, she posted a new photo on socials last week of her wearing a shirt i bought her two years ago, which i initially was very happy to see and it conveyed to me that this is her way of showing me she still values me and is thinking of me, but just is going through a lot and doesn't have the energy to write a thoughtful email  response just yet...

but then one week later, she posted another photo of her, nothing related to me, just another simple selfie...

and now i'm starting to feel a bit hurt, like she has the free time to take multiple photos, but hasn't yet responded to my email from december.

i'm worried she doesn't intend to respond, what do you think?

tl;dr worried she reached out during very tough time, backing away now that she's fine
