Breaklease QLD
Hey guys, I need some advice about breaking lease in QLD.
My lease ends mid April and I am trying to negotiate and early lease termination date with the LL, who has taken nearly a week to just reject the request.
Rent is paid til tomorrow and im trying to keep costs to a minimum as I have moved out of the property already and it seems like I have two options:
-
submit a request to break lease, give 14 days notice, pay another 14 days rent + reletting fee (I think it's capped at a further 7 days rent).
-
just stop paying rent, get evicted and lose my bond (which sounds crazy, but also sounds like the lowest cost option?)
Are there any other reasonable options here? Am I effectively just stuck paying out this full lease?
We don't have grounds to terminate under the RTA guidelines but the reason for leaving is because we feel unsafe in the property that we were living in and the LL has not responded to any of the requests to fix any of the broken appliances, so we have been living with a broken dryer and oven plus a barely functioning dishwasher. Unfortunately in hindsight I didn't breach the LL, which means I have no real out of this lease, is that correct?
Abh advice would be greatly appreciated.
