It's been just a little while since she has passed, and now I feel like I can finally talk about it, but it was very sudden. She was about two years old(at least since I have had her), and literally the best ham I've had throughout all the years I have owned hams. She was literally the only hamster that I could always casually handle at all times and never worry if she would bite me, because she never once did. If I called her name, she would look for me. She always wanted pets and when she could hear I was in my room(especially when I would get home from work) she would stand up on her hind legs looking around for me. Whenever I would have a girls night I would parade her through the house showing off my best lil ham, and everyone would be able to give her gentle pets and she seemed to love that so much. I have never known a hamster so sweet, and I never will. This was a bittersweet send off to my days of owning hamsters, but I'll always love seeing everyone else's ham posts. She was literally the best ever last ham to have.

And if anyone happens to wonder what happened, I'm honestly not even sure. She was completely fine the night before boogy-ing out on her Niteangel wheel, I spent the night at a friend's house and when I came back the next evening she was laying in her nest, hardly able to move. The first picture in my post was one of the last pictures I got of her as I lifted her nest up to not only give gentle pets to her but also to take a picture of how she was doing for my friends that loved her.(She was still very alive in that picture of course, as well as every picture in this post) I saw that it looked like she may have gotten wet tail overnight, and also out of nowhere the enclosure had mites. When I first saw there were mites I was flabbergasted, I did the whole freeze treatment on her bedding on the last change and have never seen anything else, but in the span of just a few hours from me finding her like this the mites had exploded in her home like 100-fold. It was after hours so I could not get her to my vet, and I couldn't even hold her in her final hours because I didn't want the mites to spread. I was so absolutely heartbroken, but I decided that letting her stay in her little nest was for the best since that's where she has always been most comfortable and clearly that was where she wanted to be.

I've never had such a hard time with my hamster's passings, my last hamster that made it over 3.5 years (Rip Naks she was such a queen) but I think the fact that I was able to handle Oatmeal so easily and how much she loved being handled by me it was such a different type of bond. I still look over at where her enclosure was with sadness when I go to bed because I miss getting to see her doing her little ham things.

Regardless I'm so grateful I was able to take her in, and give her such a good life while she was around. I wished she could have lived an even longer life, but I know she was getting old as I did not get her as a baby. I hope she's truly thriving on the other side, and hopefully much later on I'll be able to see her again when I too pass. I hope you guys enjoy some of my favorite pictures of her that I had gotten throughout her time with me. Rest in peace Oatmeal, may you have all the sunflower seeds you could ever want over there 💖

RIP Oatmeal 😔🖤
