From our point of view, anything falling in black hole would take infinite time. That means we cannot observe two black holes colliding. Then what the heck did we detect at Ligo?

We literally observed (through their gravitational waves), two black holes colliding. But per GR, from our pov, both black holes would come close enough and then freeze in time. They would never penetrate each others event horizon. Then how did we detect a collision.
