writer with a character background question; criminal defense attorney with a background in civil litigation?

title. i'm writing a character who is supposed to be a very successful attorney in her late 30s/early 40s. she's a currently a criminal defense attorney, but i want her to have a background in civil litigation and essentially be able to operate in both fields. would this work/is this realistic? thank you
