Okay, Reddit. I’m out of my depth. I know virtually nothing about electronics but I came into possession of what I believe is a voice of music model 1046 record player console. If I’m right this thing is boringly about 60 years old and spent a chunk of its life as a countertop. Fortunately it survived and still works of the most part.

The left hand speaker just buzzes and plays no actual audio at all. The right hand speaker works but buzzes a little. The bass knob causes the speakers to pop and crackle. I do not know how to even begin diagnosing these issues. I’ve been doing research online and learning as much as I can but I’m no electrician. Does anyone know where I might begin?

The red felt was added by me. I thought it would look nice and provide some protection for any records stored inside the thing since the original foam had literally turned to dust.

I’d be extremely grateful for any help. It’s really important to me that I get this thing working properly. I would like nothing more than to keep this in my home until the day I die as a memento to the days when ownership meant something and things work actually built with the intention that they would not need to be replaced every year.
