512GB or 1TB with trade in and return.
So I am in what I think is a unique situation as far as buying a laptop goes. For some context I really needed a new computer around Christmas time as I was starting a game design class (highschool not collage) so I bought a MBA, 13in, M4: 10 core gpu 24gb ram, 512 ssd with money I got for Christmas plus my own. I ended up buying it at Costco because I knew the return policy maybe would let me upgrade to M5 when it released. With the M5 Costco has now raised their price, making it cheeper to go though apples education store. Because I went though Costco the first time I couldn't trade in my old 2019 intel mac. Now my choices are:
-
same config I have with M5 and trade in old mac for ~$200 cheeper than last time.
-
same config I have and keep old mac for some project (ideas welcome) for the same price as before.
-
upgrade to 1 terabyte of storage for around the same price due to trade in.
-
I guess I could also go for more ram.
I mostly use my laptop for 3d modeling for a printer, the adobe programs (ps, ai, ae), and light gaming (most recently Hytale). Also might be good to mention I use iCloud drive and that I am about to be in collage so longevity is kind of important to me. I'm really just curious what everyone thinks, any advice or suggestions would be amazing.
