Braking resistance in reverse only — 2016 Jeep Wrangler JK
When I start the car and reverse off my driveway (slight downhill), braking feels noticeably more resistant than normal — like I’m fighting against something to stop. The moment I go forward, it’s completely fine.
What I’ve tried / ruled out:
∙ New brake pads (all 4) — problem existed before, no change after
∙ Handbrake — same whether on or off while parked
∙ Neutral test — rolled back on gravity in neutral and braked; resistance was normal. This suggests the drivetrain being engaged in reverse is contributing somehow
∙ Rear differential service — recently done so fluid condition/level isn’t the issue
What I don’t know:
Whether this is a transmission/drivetrain behaviour (torque loading reversing direction on worn components), a brake booster vacuum issue at low speed, or something else entirely.
Automatic transmission, 3.6L Pentastar. Anyone experienced this or have a direction to look?
