I’m starting to hate my culture and community and wish I was born anywhere else

I’m an immigrant from a country with a pretty decently sized diaspora in the city I live in , this leads to us being often stereotyped in media’s and daily discussions. My parents would always denounce part of the culture but inconciencly pass down the same norms and values they criticized . I grew up in a pretty white neighborhood and in high school i went to a very diverse area, but i was the only person of my origin in the class . It wasn’t until uni that I interacted more with people of my own community and that weirdly enough made me hate my own people more and more . At first i thought the aspect i didn’t like about my culture were maybe only present in my parents and I shouldn’t hold it against my culture as a whole but sure enough i found the same thing with the people in uni . I hate absolutely everything about my community, the misplaced nationalism that justifies anything our country does , the need to always appear strong no matter what , the absolute absence of love in our daily language, the fact having a short temper is seen as a “ cultural thing “ and not a fault. And the thing is I know it’s a common thing to hate those things yet no one does anything to change them , a lot of people I talked to became way more likeable after they dropped the mask that this culture forces you to were to prove your “ one of the real one” otherwise you’re just called assimilated.

They are so many stereotypes and assumptions about our people and so many members of our community just prove them right and that truly hurt me . I’m at a point where I can’t even defend my community.

And before someone asks me from what country I prefer not to say because as I mentioned the hyper nationalism will make you get insulted at any critic of our country or culture . Also before someone asks . I went to my county plenty of time , I was born there and still have family that lives there , weirdly enough the people i met were more likeable than what I saw in the diaspora, it’s like all the awful aspects present in our culture were somehow multiplied by ten in the diaspora without the positive aspect doing so too . a flaw .
