did maomao have special intention?

So when she was getting ready for 'garden party' and jinshi came to check on 'jade pavilion' and saw her w/o freckles..she answers him.. kind of confuses him with what he has been seeing and with what she really was. But why? Couldn't she just lie?(For she did many times to get rid of useless troubles) Or lying to high eunuch was prohibited? Was that becoz of the pressure of the jade pavilion members(for they knew already)? Or was on purpose..to deliberately/indirectly want him to know..? :)
