I hate my sister and I can't get past it.
I really hate my sister. When I was younger, I thought it would fade as we got past puberty. But i'm now 25 and she's 22 and this feeling has only grown bigger as i've gotten older.
She's completely self absorbed, entitled, vain and lacks empathy for anyone that isn't herself.
On my birthday this year, she spend the day giving me death stares and talking over me. She demanded that my parents gets her a gift as well, since she "really wants something too". My parents completely indulges her behaviour, which only adds to my feelings about her. They asked me to go look for a gift for her as well, while im picking my own gift. This is not reciprocated on her birthday by the way. Every year, during her "birthday week", she won't even grab her own napkins at the dinner table. Someone else has to get up for her because she's the birthday girl and everyone should serve her on her special week. I'm not kidding.
Every time I see her, she spends the entire time talking about herself and seem genuinely disinterested in me or how I am doing. She only reaches out to me if she needs something from me.
I don't know what to do with these feelings. I can't cut her out of my life as this would not pass with my family and would break my mom's heart. But every time I see her, I am filled with rage. I hate the way I am when i'm around her. I feel small and alone. Will she ever grow out of it? I'm scared to talk to her as she cannot handle any criticism without exploding. I think my parents have given up on talking to her as well.
