Why the hate against MCP?

discussion

It’s very common to find people criticising MCP or predicting its death, I sometimes think they are referring to tool calling in general. For me is just a tool in a tool box, some things are better as a skill, some others as a CLI some others as a local tool and sometimes as a remote tool, and for remote tools I use MCPs. I’ve been deploying AI agents as microservices and remote tool calling with MCP has been a godsend for two reasons:

  1. Standard protocol.

  2. Available SDKs.

  3. Publicly available tools.

I can just tell other teams, just make a MCP and you’ll have an agent in no time. No need to document how to connect the agent other than a few clicks, no need to force them to a programming language, they control the evaluations, they can use their own llm framework if they want to.

I understand they way tool calling works today needs improvement, but tool calling doesn’t necessarily needs to be MCP, is just 🤷😓.
