I dont understand how combat works in monster hunter 3

I'm basically new to the franchise and interested playing the 3rd game bcs the trailer looks so cool I'm alr familiar playing turn based game such as persona and pokemon

But even tho i alr did tutorial its still a bit confusing First off all -does attack type only matters for head to head event? -the tutorial say something about easy to evade but i dont even know how to evade -i still dont get how monster attack pattern and resulting me to randomly push atk and skill button

I think thats all But if you guys have an additional guide please let me know
