Clothing Wholesale: Lost Money Twice Before Figuring Out What Actually Works [WTB - WHOLESALE]
I don’t usually post this, but a few people asked me this week where I source clothing wholesale reliably, so I figured I would write it out properly. Short version, lost money twice, tested a ton of options, finally found something consistent. Here’s the story.
Why I started looking - mid-2025
I wanted to stock a small T-shirt and hoodie line for my side hustle. I thought I could save by buying in bulk from any supplier I found online. First two attempts were disasters:
The first supplier looked legit, decent prices, even had sample options. Paid for 50 units. Two weeks later, half the batch had wrong sizing, bad stitching, and no response from support. Money gone.
Second recommended in a forum. Ordered 30 units, 19 days later, the website disappeared. No refund. Another 200€ gone in total. My wife said “just drop it,” but I wasn’t ready to quit.
November 2025 - Learning from mistakes
I started researching properly, comparing materials, checking reviews, and yes… even browsing Alibaba just to see what fabrics and designs were out there. Not buying blindly, just to understand what’s available and which suppliers were consistent.
The result so far: smaller, verified batches, good fabric quality, minimal defects, and suppliers who respond. Testing samples first made all the difference.
Lesson: losing money sucks, but it teaches you how to evaluate suppliers, fabrics, and reliability. Now I feel like I can grow without constant fear of a disappearing supplier.
Does anyone else here share horror stories from early clothing wholesale orders?
