Indian Men on Social Media are Creepy as Hell !!!

:discuss: Discussion

I am 24M and around 2–3 years ago, during the end of my college, I was experimenting a lot with social media and digital marketing.

I was running multiple types of pages to understand how growth works — meme pages, fitness pages, motivational content, religious posts, etc.

One of those experiments was an AI influencer page (a girl profile). At the beginning I didn’t explicitly mention it was AI. I just started posting photos, reels, and normal influencer-style content to see how the algorithm behaves.

And honestly… the page started growing. But that’s when I got a reality check about Instagram DMs.

If you’ve ever run a page, you know one basic rule: engage with your audience to increase reach. So if someone sent “Hi”, “Good morning”, or “Where are you from?”, I would reply normally.

Big mistake.

A lot of the DMs started getting weird. Very weird. Some were normal guys, but many were men in their 30s or even 40s.

One incident still sticks in my mind.

There was a guy whose profile picture initially had him with a kid (probably his child). When I replied to his message once, suddenly he changed his DP. Then he switched the chat to vanish mode with a love theme.

I was sitting there like… bro I literally just replied “hi”.

Then he started asking: “Are you married?” “Do you have a boyfriend?”

At that point I was just curious how far this would go, so I jokingly replied something like “No, I’m a lonely girl.”

And that escalated things immediately. Within minutes he started sending extremely explicit messages like,

"Dont worry baby I am here with you" "Can you show me your B@@bs" "Wanna see my d*ck pic"

Like naah bruuuu.... hell naahhhhh

He even started video calling multiple times a day.

I blocked him eventually. But what shocked me more was that this wasn’t just one guy. Many others started sending weird messages, random photos, asking if I was single, acting extremely desperate.

Some profiles looked like very normal people. Some even had religious quotes or things like “Jai Shree Ram” or other religious lines in their bio like not just saying about hindu many other religious people were same like Muslims they just starting with sexual pic no hii no good morning.

It was honestly confusing and uncomfortable. And the irony is — I’m literally a guy running the page.

But even that short experience made me understand something I never fully understood before.

Now I actually get why so many women say social media DMs are creepy.

Because if this is what I experienced for a short time while running a fake page… I can’t imagine what actual women deal with daily.

I eventually shut the page down. Didn’t want to continue in that niche.

Curious to hear from others who’ve run influencer pages or social media accounts.

Is this level of weird DM behaviour normal, or did I just get unlucky with the audience?
