Parking tips for Puerto Rico vs Italy at Daikin Park (Houston 03/14)
honestly trying to find a spot for the puerto rico vs italy game on 03/14 is going to be a bit of a mission because daikin park is right in the middle of everything in downtown houston. saturday afternoon games are usually packed and the traffic around the stadium can get pretty frustrating if you dont have a plan before you head out.
you should definitely check out Prked first if you want to make things easier on yourself. it is an app where you can rent driveways or spots in private garages right by daikin park which is way cheaper than the official stadium lots. the best part is you can skip the massive traffic jams when the game ends because you are not stuck in a giant parking structure with everyone else and it is usually just a very short walk to the gates.
if you decide to go with the official options the stadium has lot a and lot b right next to the building but those are usually the most expensive and fill up hours before the 2:00 pm first pitch. you also have lot c nearby but be prepared for a long wait to get out of there after the game finishes around 5:10 pm. the traffic where i-10 and us-59 meet is always a bottleneck especially on weekends so i would suggest arriving at least ninety minutes early to avoid the worst of it.
another good strategy is to look at the private lots in eado which is the area just east of us-59. you can usually find lots that are half the price of the stadium parking and you just walk across the pedestrian bridges at texas avenue or congress street. there is also the avenida north and avenida south garages near the convention center but they get busy if there are other events going on at discovery green or the convention hall.
street parking is an option too and the meters in houston are usually active on saturdays until 6 pm so you will have to pay for the whole game duration. just be really careful about reading the signs because they will tow you in a heartbeat if you are in a bus lane or too close to a fire hydrant. if you are planning to use an uber or lyft there are designated zones on la branch st but keep in mind that surge pricing will be high right after the game.
since this game is on 03/14 there might also be some extra crowds downtown for st patricks day celebrations so the whole area is going to be buzzing. definitely try to park on the side of the stadium that leads back toward the highway you need to take home so you are not fighting cross-town traffic. hope this helps and hope the game is great.
