First amateur fight
Had my first real kickboxing fight tonight as the title implies. The experience was like no other. Hands down the scariest thing I’ve ever done in my life. Nerves had been eating at me all week starting Monday and so the first thing I realized upon arriving and getting backstage was how nervous all the other fighters were too. Pacing back and forth. Nervous twitch in their legs. One guy literally told me he was shitting bricks lmao. I came to realize I wasn’t the only one nervous or afraid. The worst part of the whole experience was hands down the wait. We had 23 fights on the card, half of those fights were guys from my gym, and I was smack dab in the middle at number 13. Waited about 2 hours before it was my time to walk out. I was surprised at how friendly the crowd actually was lmao. Before I started walking out I was standing by the door with my corner and there was a line of about 15 guys looking at me making pitbull noises tryna hype me up. I came out to lose yourself by Eminem and those guys along with everyone in the crowd started rapping a long to the song. Funniest thing was I had no clue who any of those guys even were so they just took it upon themselves to hype me up. As far as the fight itself I went the distance but it didn’t play out at all like I thought it would. Only thing I really landed were knees in the clinch, my opponent was very good at keeping his distance so everytime I tried to attack he was just gone before I could really hit him most of the time. So I told myself at the beginning of the third round that if it kept playing out like that then I’d just grab him when he came in to punch me and throw some knees at his stomach. Only thing that worked, nothing else that I’m actually good at worked at all lmao. I lost by unanimous decision and I do feel like I let my team down, my khru was mad during the fight but he DID give me a smile afterwards🙏🏾lmao, but I recognize the courage I showed by even getting in that cage is a level of courage that most people brag about having but don’t really have. I showed I’m actually a dog by getting in there. Huge respect to the fighters out there, I’m honored to finally be able to say I’ve joined your community, I don’t think fighting is really for me though. I think I’d be happy with the knowledge of knowing I can run it with the best in my gym and give them a fight, help them train for their fights, etc.
