I made an app and made $0 here's what I learnt
I launched my first app Flocused, a couple of weeks ago, and so far, I have only 22 users and made $0. But that's okay because it's all a learning experience. Here's the most valuable things I've learnt from launching the app.
-
Your friends are not your users. While it's cool to tell your friends what you're doing and it is their job to support you BUT remember your friends are not your paying customers. You need to understand your target users and make the app catered to them NOT to your friends.
-
Don't blindly implement suggested features. When someone makes a suggestion for your app, don't just implement their feature, think about the root problem. Think WHY they suggested that feature for example if your users are asking for an onboarding tutorial, the root issue could be a bad UI design. Think deeper than the suggestion because if you solve the root issue it is faster, and most likely cleaner than having a new feature to make the bad ones less worse.

Marketing matters. You can have the best app that ever exists, but if no one knows about it, it might as well not exist. For me I did some social media marketing incorperating trends into my marketing for more reach. Marketing ties into understanding your target user, think where they would be, you need to target your specific user. The easiest way to do this is to build something where the target user is yourself.
So far that's what I've learnt a couple weeks into launch. If you wanna try out my web app go ahead, it is a social productivity app that combines a pomodoro timer with group activites during the break section. It discourages the doomscroll during a break and encourages social interaction. I built this because I was tired of those super unproductive study calls with my mates. I will continue building this app to see what I can do.
