Mechanic tightened lug nuts in a circular motion

He tightened the front wheels like that and it's the first time I've noticed, I've taken the car to him many times and his fixed it and just now I noticed that's how he tightens the lug nuts, in a circular motion rather than the star method.

Am I tripping if I go to a tire shop and tell them to loose the nuts and tighten them in a star shape motion? Now that I think of it that's maybe how I've driven this whole time and I see no difference in my car but I think it's wrong. Idk if im overreacting but I've always known that doing it in a circular motion damages the rotors.
