severe exam anxiety has made me unable to study all year. My parents want me to see a psychiatrist and I'm scared.
I (17F) am in my final year of school. This entire academic year I basically haven't been able to study. Even thinking about school or opening my books makes me feel extremely sick. My heart starts racing. I feel like I can't breathe and sometimes I even throw up. I ended up avoiding studying completely. And used my phone as a distraction to take my mind off of the stress. I know it's a bad coping mechanism but yeah that's all that I've got.
Now it's exam time and I haven't prepared. The pressure is huge because people expect me to get top grades. I've always been the student who comes first in my school so everyone expects the same again. But now the expectations themselves make me panic and I can't even start studying.
During an exam two days ago I got extremely sick. I was throwing up and my hands were shaking. I felt dizzy and my vision got blurry. The staff gave me ORS and medicine but it didn't really help and I could barely write.1 I'll prolly lose alot of marks in it.
I asked my parents if I could see a psychiatrist because I feel like something is wrong and they agreed. Many of my relatives also told my parents to take me to a psychiatrist or a therapist. But now that it's actually happening I'm getting scared.
I'm worried the doctor will think I'm exaggerating or that this is a small issue and there's no reason to see a psychiatrist. I'm afraid of being judged or dismissed.
I just don't know what to do. Please tell me what u think.
