What Timothee Chalamet Said Wasn’t That Bad

I honestly think that what he said to wasn’t that big of a deal and nowhere near as deserving of the uproar that it’s received online although he did word it in a fairly disrespectful way. It feels more like the culmination of the already growing hate for him because he wasn’t the soft spoken artsy golden boy that everyone perceived him to be. Since many of his early known roles were this soft spoken kind of character so many people pushed these preconceived notions onto him and expected him to meet them while forgetting he’s literally an actor. The same hate happened following his award ceremony speech and Marty supreme press tour where he openly stated and pushed for his goal of winning an Oscar. I think going towards the lengths of saying his comments on film and opera were disrespectful towards women is far too much of a stretch especially if he has family in them. He clearly sees the value in these art forms and just stated that they aren’t on the same level as acting nowadays which is a valid take. Most people on the street know who DiCaprio or DeNiro are but can’t name off any of the greats in ballet or theatre. I’d argue it just feels like an excuse to take the moral high ground and have a reason to dislike someone that you already had negative feelings about. I think as a whole his determination to succeed in his craft and candidness is good for the film industry and many people just aren’t accustomed to it especially if he’s backing it up in the way he is.
