Does anyone else feel a huge divide between themselves and kids that went to private school?

I am 18, and go to a major university (one of the top 8). I only started my degree a couple weeks ago, but I’ve noticed this huge divide between the people in my course - the ones that went to private schools and the ones that didn’t. All my friends in uni went to either super inexpensive religious schools or regular public schools, but none of the private school kids ever want to talk to you. At all. The moment they hear you’re from a public school they just either ignore or scoff and go do their thing. They only want to talk and hang out with people from their own, or affiliated schools. Same thing I’ve noticed at work - all my friends are either public school kids or people from regional Australia. Is this just a my circle thing, or is it Australia-wide?
