Weekend shifts became a nightmare - had to walk away from PF
Need to get this off my chest about my Planet Fitness experience. Been working the early morning weekend shifts (5 AM to 2 PM) for roughly eight months, and it's been wild watching people bail left and right - we lost six team members in just the past couple months alone.
What kept me around was genuinely caring about the regular members who'd come in. The work itself wasn't terrible, but the way things were handled by leadership became absolutely ridiculous.
The breaking point hit when I got stuck waiting for my replacement to show up for the fourth time in a month. Each time it was at least 40 minutes past when I was supposed to be done. First couple times, the excuse was always traffic delays. Third time, dude strolls in with a whole takeout order he'd obviously stopped to grab.
Last straw was when my relief casually mentioned the night before that he had some appointment and basically said "someone else will handle it." Problem was, our GM had recently moved on and nobody bothered telling us who was actually running things.
So 2:10 rolls around, nobody shows. I'm texting the group chat - crickets. Called another location hoping to reach a manager - nope. Even tried their emergency line and got told to just wait for someone to call me back. By 2:50 I was absolutely done standing there with a gym full of people while getting completely ignored.
Said screw it, dropped the key on the desk, clocked out, and sent my resignation text. Felt awful about the members but realized this company clearly didn't value my time at all. The crazy part? Some manager I'd never even met appeared exactly twenty minutes after I left. Shows they had coverage available the whole time - they just didn't care enough to use it until I actually walked.
