Why are we (humans) able to recognize AI generated content?

This is almost a shower thought but I wonder if there's been any research to prove it. I find more and more often that I open a website when looking for a recipe or synopsis of a book and I can almost instantly tell it was AI generated text. It's almost like the uncanny valley but in sentence structure and formatting.
