Why are teachers running away from the profession ?

I recently met a student who graduated 4 years ago from high school . When I saw him in a cafe in public, I was happy and asked him how is he doing.

He said as follows:

Me: Hi, How are you doing? (I asked with a smile)

Him: Well , I am definitely doing much better than you loser !

When he told me that , the crowd of his college peers and even adults around him laughed at me. It was very humiliating for me as it was very sudden. I was hurt as I was only nice to him in school even though he is a bit naughty.

Honestly , since I am 38 years old , do you think I should just quit the profession and join other jobs ? And to make things worst , the salary is also lower these days.
