Why don't people just listen?

I work in scheduling for an insurance company. I do other things but that's my primary function.

Here's an example: "So the next available appointment is April 20th."

"Do you have anything sooner"

"No, there next available appointment I have is April 20th."

"So you don't have anything in March?"
