Attendance

Is there a strict rules for attendance?? As I see in 1st sem no one was restricted for giving 1sem exams even though they didn't attend the classes. I need to prepare for an exam if I skip my classes will it be okay??? Like I'll try to attend 20% of them but if i skip most of them will it be okay. Please help
