How do you use the Almanac in in-person games?
I am looking for guidance and ideas on how to make the info contained in the Almanac get to the players that need it without overwhelming the group with information.
Context: I run in-person games every few weeks with 7-10 rotating players out of a pool of 16. This means that we always have at least a couple of players that never played the script.
We have run TB for a few months, and the last 2 seasons we played S&V. I share the script in advance for those that want to familiarize themselves with the roles before the game.
Last session, the Vortox decided to Barber-swap the twins, and I decided to keep them paired. The Demon did not realize that their alignment would not change, nor that he could choose himself: both these notions are very clear in the Almanac entry for the Barber.
This resulted in the (good) Evil Twin being emboldened in asking me public rules questions about what happened to confirm that he was still good, while the (evil) Town Crier was confused by the situation and afraid to blow their cover, causing contradictions and finally losing the game.
In retrospect, I believe I should have shown the Barber entry to the Demon at night, and I should have talked to the twins to make sure they understood that their alignment was NOT changed: this was our first time witnessing a barber swap, and they thought it worked like the Snake Charmer, despite me repeating their alignment the night of the swap.
Any feedback and ideas are welcome, thanks!
