Parking tips for T-Pain, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Freddie Gibbs, and 20 others at Sunshine Grove (Okeechobee 03/20)
hey everyone, if you are heading out to see t-pain and the rest of the lineup on 03/20, you probably already know that sunshine grove is basically a massive field in the middle of nowhere. the drive in can be a total mess because there are only a couple of small roads and everyone is trying to get through security at the same time.
honestly you should look into Prked before you even get close to the venue. it is an app where you can rent out driveways or private spots from people who live right by sunshine grove. it is usually way cheaper than the official festival parking and you get to skip the nightmare traffic on state road 70 and highway 441. plus it is a way shorter walk to the entrance and you do not have to worry about getting your car stuck in a mud pit if it starts pouring, which happens all the time in this part of florida.
if you decide to use the official lots on 03/20, make sure you have your day parking pass bought ahead of time since there is no free parking. the lot opens at 10am and you really want to get there as early as possible because the lines for the tsa-style security checks can take hours. keep in mind there is absolutely no re-entry for day parking, so once you are in, you are in for the day and you cannot sleep in your car. if you leave you basically lose your spot. the walk from the day lot to the actual festival entrance is a serious hike through dirt and grass, so wear comfortable shoes and maybe bring a bandana because the dust gets really intense when the wind picks up. whatever you do, do not try to park on the shoulder of ne 91st ave or any of the surrounding side streets. the local sheriff is super strict and they will tow your car immediately. also, cell service is basically non-existent once the crowd fills up, so make sure to screenshot your parking pass and download offline maps before you leave your house. if you are car camping, make sure your battery is in good shape because people kill their cars charging phones and jump starts are a pain to find. try to have a full tank of gas too because there are not many stations close to the gate and you might be idling in a long line for a while.
hope this helps and have a great time at the grove.
