Should I adjust to a forehand on a return to serve?
Let's say it's the start of the game and I'm getting ready to return the serve. The serve comes a bit towards the center line, but not too close. It's very lined up with my backhand (I'm right-handed), such that I would not need to move laterally to reach it with my BH. However, I do have time to shuffle over and take it with my forehand. My question: Is this shuffling advisable?
I suspect that the answer, in terms of long term improvement, is "get comfortable taking the backhand shot, you want to move less rather than more, and you'll reduce chances for error." But in terms of strategy and winning a point -- is it advisable to switch over this way? Thank you.
