Nobody teaches you how to speak well and it's the one skill that affects literally everything

School taught me how to write essays. Never once taught me how to explain something out loud without rambling for 5 minutes. Job interviews, talking to your landlord, phone calls with insurance companies, asking for a raise, ordering at a restaurant when the waiter is rushing you. All of it requires speaking clearly under pressure and nobody ever teaches you how.

I've been working on this for a few months now and the most useful thing I've found is just doing daily speaking drills. Pick a random question, answer it out loud for 60 seconds, no prep. Sounds dumb but your brain gets measurably faster at forming sentences on the fly. The second most useful thing was recording myself on a work call and listening back. I had no idea I said "basically" before every single sentence.

I started r/SpeakBetter where I post twice a day with drills and resources I've been collecting from speaking coaches, debate teams, vocal training programs, basically anywhere I can find actual techniques instead of "just be confident" advice. If anyone else feels like adulting would be easier if someone had taught them how to talk its worth a look.
