Programmable RF transmitter that's not remote shaped. (buy or make if I need to/ESP32??)
I'm not sure is ESP32 is the right name/ goal. If I have to build one, (and I'm very much afraid I will) I'm prepared to make/do/figure out/cry my way through whatever an ESP32(??!?) is just so I don't have these ugly cheap remotes staring at me everywhere I go. But while I'm comfortable with the programming (more or less) I'm a little anxious about actually building something and bread boards and transisters and electrical components.
What I want to do:
I bought a couple LED strips for cabinets and a couple places, but I absolutely hate the little remotes they come with, and even worse, my strips are different brands, so I HAVE to keep both.
I just want to make sure my idea makes sense before I go through and buy the stuff to make a replacement.
I want to steal the RF signals each remote is sending, then copy it onto a device where I can click ONE button and set it to "night" or "day" mode. This would generally involve switching the color temp and then increasing or decreasing the brightness, which would ordinarily take 6 or 7 button clicks. (I'm fine if it steps down, rather than needing it to "go directly to scene")
Before I look at building it, does anyone know of a device (preferably a wall mountable device, like acts or looks like a household switch) that can do this out of the box? Even if I have to manually set everything or program it on my computer. I've found nothing, but I've no idea what to look up to find that sort of thing. (I know this isn't the right subreddit for that particular question, but I really would prefer to just buy something if its not too expensive)
But for building one myself, is looking into the ESP32 thing the right place? If so, I found this tutorial. If I follow that will it roughly get me to what I'm trying to do? (the author was setting up a signal for office lights which seemed close to what I want to do). If anyone has a better idea or that this would be totally wrong, I'd happily take recommendations.
I know I'll need to buy something like an RTL SDR Transmitter to steal the rf signals, I was looking at a cheap one on amazon.
Is there anything else I should be aware or wary of before I start?
