Looking at getting our first EV due to upgrading our solar array and getting a battery. Just makes sense to fully electrify. Our kiddo will be driving by the time the lease is up, and the plan is that it'll be their first car. Having this in mind when researching and test driving, I can't help but worry that the current race to the lowest time from 0 to 100 is creating insane fucking weapons for P platers/young drives.

In the early 2030s when there's a glut of the current leases entering the market, no doubt quite cheaply due to the expected progression of development in battery and motor technologies, there will be kids in cars with some absolute bonkers stats. I know if I had a Zeeker 7X (or the like) when I was 18, I probably wouldn't be here today.

I note there are 555 banned EVs on the P plate list; [https://vicroadssafevehicles.carsalesnetwork.com.au/#/search;cylinders=0;status=banned;page=1](https://vicroadssafevehicles.carsalesnetwork.com.au/#/search;cylinders=0;status=banned;page=1)
It's lucky I thought to check as some of them were "on the list".

My questions is, are people interested in sensible EVs? Or is it all smaller number better? I've been looking at the Nissan X-Trail nonsense version with the locomotive drive train, hoping they would release a pure EV version, but with specs that are "normal". As in, equivalent to their ICE counterparts, no need to go crazy.

This is what I think I know, glad to be corrected/updated. If you oversize a motor and have it run in it's efficiency range, it will last longer and obviously, be more efficient. Also, if you aim for a modest acceleration/top speed profile, you can also downrate conductors etc, making the whole car lighter and cheaper to make, right? Also lowering the C rate or whatever, making the batteries last longer (not sure if this is an issue for solid state batteries).

Anyway, I've been playing with these ideas, and would LOVE to see a vehicle like the one I've attached. I just hope Nissan pulls their finger out before they die. I would be happy with another company to make it with similar stats. I'm currently leaning towards the MGS5, as it's the only EV I have driven that felt like a normal car (to me anyway). I would still like AWD, but only for handling and mild off road/farm duties, not to make it a bullet.

Am I the only one that feels this way? Or...

EV specs are getting insane, any market for a sensible EV?
