Did anyone stop breastfeeding before 6 months?

I have a beautiful 5 month old and our breastfeeding journey has been a total rollercoaster. I am so emotionally spent. We combo feed and have done from day one due to low supply. Every week is different and, I guess due to inconsistency, I got my period back at 4 months pp. When the 3 month crisis started I was determined to push through.. we did and for a week or so it got better. But we seem to be back to square one. He fusses consistently, grunts and groans (burping doesnt help) and I feel like he's giving up because my flow is too slow. It's like he's starting to snack so consistently he's almost started the weaning process himself. I can see he's dehydrated if I dont top him up with extra formula post feed. Pumping doesnt work for me, I get such a small amount out over 40 min it just screws with my head and I am not really willing to mess with my mental health on that level again.

I guess I am looking for support/words of wisdom from anyone who might have experienced any of the above and what you did or didn't do. I am so close to just giving in to save my sanity (and keep him hydrated!).
