Parking tips for Rock ‘n’ Roll Washington DC at N Street Northwest (Washington 03/21)

so i heard you are heading to the rock n roll washington dc race on 03/21 and honestly if you have ever tried to drive in dc during a marathon you know it is a total mess with all the street closures. since the race starts early and cuts through half the city finding a spot that does not get you towed or stuck behind a barrier for five hours is basically a full-time job.

if you want to avoid the headache i definitely recommend using Prked to find a spot. you can basically rent out someone's private driveway or a garage space right near n street northwest or the start line areas. it is usually way cheaper than the massive hotel valets or those underground garages that hike their prices for event weekends. plus you get to skip the insane traffic jam that happens when ten thousand runners all try to leave the same parking deck at the exact same time. it is just a short walk to the starting corrals and you do not have to worry about the city's confusing permit rules.

if you decide not to use Prked you really need to be careful about where you leave your car. the city starts putting up emergency no parking signs as early as 6 pm on friday 03/20 and they will tow you without thinking twice if you are on the course. most of the area around n street northwest is zone 2 residential parking so unless you have a dc permit you are limited to two hours or you will get a ticket. for actual garages you could look at the palladium at 1325 18th street or the lots on m street like 1800 m or 1850 m which usually have decent daily rates but they fill up fast. there is also the park hyatt garage on 24th street but that one can be over 50 dollars for the day.

keep in mind the race starts near 14th and constitution for the half and 4th and pennsylvania for the 5k so you will have a bit of a walk from n street northwest. street closures begin around 3 am on 03/21 and affect major roads like rock creek parkway- k street- and north capitol street. if you are thinking about the metro just a heads up that it usually does not open until 7 am on saturdays which is cutting it super close for the 7:30 am 5k start. rfk stadium lots are sometimes an option but they are far from this year's finish line and can be a nightmare to exit. your best bet is to find something on the north side of the course so you do not get trapped inside the loop. hope this helps and good luck with the run.
