Anyone else have weird pronoun preferences?
So, I used to say I use “any pronouns.”
What I *meant* is I use he/she/they, but I don’t want to say that because that sounds like I have a preference for he, meanwhile the 95% of people would find it laughable to call me “he” based on my appearance. I could say “she/he/they” or “she/they/he,” but people already only use she/her- and I don’t want to be called only that. “They/she/he” is just. No one says that out loud, it’s a mouth full, and it still isn’t right. By the way, no disrespect to people who say “any pronouns” and mean *any* including it/its/ze/etc. I would not at all have been offended/uncomfortable being called these since I did say any, but people only ever she/her-ed me.
In my ideal world, people I know would only they/them me, but it wouldn’t be necessary to *correct* a stranger using she/her because it’s not necessarily wrong. Same for he, because I have a typically male name so people assume I am if they’re just reading my name.
I in no real reality expect anyone to learn my unusual preferences. I just say they/them now. I’m in school to be a teacher, so I will definitely be “she/they” when I get a job, because I am not cut out for telling students or other faculty I use they/them only.
I’d love to hear anyone else’s oddly specific pronoun preferences, if they have any!
