Parking tips for Jeff Ruby Steaks at Turfway Park (Florence 03/21)
figured i would share some thoughts on the parking situation since the jeff ruby steaks on 03/21 is going to be absolute chaos at the track. turfway park has been through a lot of renovations lately and while the new facility is nice the parking layout still gets overwhelmed during major stakes races like this one.
honestly your best bet is to look at Prked before you head out. you can find people nearby renting out their driveways or private spots which is way cheaper than paying for premium event parking. plus you get to skip the massive traffic jam that happens when everyone tries to leave the main lot at the same time. it is usually a short walk and much easier to get back onto the highway since you arent stuck in the bottleneck.
if you decide to use the official turfway park lot you need to get there way earlier than the 12:30 pm start time. the lot usually fills up by mid-morning on big race days and the overflow can be a total hike. they usually have a valet option at the front entrance but it gets backed up really fast and can take forever to get your car back once the final race is over.
traffic patterns around florence are pretty rough on 03/21 especially with the congestion that always seems to happen near the i-75 and i-71 interchanges. the exit at turfway road gets totally backed up so you might want to try exiting at houston road instead and winding your way through the back streets like hansel ave. it can save you a lot of time sitting in a standstill near the interstate ramps.
be really careful about parking in the nearby shopping centers or business lots like the ones near the retail strips or the hotels. they are known to tow during the jeff ruby steaks because they want to keep spots open for their own customers. i have seen plenty of people come out after a long day of betting only to find their car gone because they thought they could sneak into a hotel lot.
if you are taking a rideshare like uber or lyft do not try to get picked up right at the main grandstand entrance after the races end. the gridlock is insane and your driver will probably cancel after sitting in traffic for twenty minutes trying to reach the pin. walk a few blocks over toward the restaurants on turfway road or find a nearby gas station and call it from there. it makes it way easier for the driver to reach you and gets you on the road home a lot faster. hope this helps and have a great time at the races.
