OIG showed up at my house today - what happens next?
So I've been on disability for about 12 years now and I'm dealing with a really ugly divorce situation.
Two OIG investigators from social security came to my door today saying they needed to ask questions for some investigation. I'm pretty sure these were legit agents - that part doesn't worry me. The thing is, my soon-to-be ex-husband is being a complete nightmare through this whole divorce and I'm betting he reported me to SS claiming I'm working or capable of working or whatever.
What I actually do is help out a buddy with their vacation rental - maybe 90 minutes a month just responding to guest messages since they need someone local on record. I handle initial contact with people staying there in case they need anything during their visit. I don't do maintenance, cleaning, none of that stuff. There's no payment involved but I did mention I get access to their little member club which is cool, and I've stayed at the place twice but zero actual money changes hands.
The conversation went on for maybe 45 minutes and the guy said he'll write up his findings and forward everything to the local SS office for review. He made it clear he doesn't make any decisions himself, just collects info.
My main questions are - is this pretty routine when someone files a fraud complaint? Does the report go to someone who then decides whether to move forward? Will they send me some kind of notification? How do I know when this whole thing is finished? I've got medical records going back years that clearly document my condition so I'm not really stressed about that part.
But between this and all the court stuff with my ex not paying child support, I'm just exhausted with everything right now.
Anyone been through this process before who can explain how it usually works?
