A mortgage attorney in CA built a self-serve doc platform that now makes more than his law firm. Why aren't more firms doing this?

Why aren't more firms doing this? Especially in practice areas where you're essentially producing the same documents with slightly different inputs — estate planning, immigration forms, landlord-tenant, corporate formation, etc.

Is it a tech barrier? An ethical concern? Or do most lawyers just not think about their practice this way?

Curious if anyone here has tried to "productize" any part of their practice, even informally.
