Drink Driving - Insurance Policy Cancelled?
Okay, before I start, drink driving is wrong and I have learned a lifetime lesson, don’t need everyone on my case about it.
Back story; 25 years old, have my own business with a few lads employed. On a Friday over 6 months ago, I drank two pints on the way home from work and had a minor crash, went through insurance who paid out. Gardai came and breathylysed me on the scene and I failed the breath test for alcohol. I told insurance at the time about the drinking and that I would be receiving a fixed charge notice and 3 month for same.
The van I crashed is not economically repairable so I took the hit on this because I was not going to fight the insurance for it when I had drink taken. I kept that policy running even though I haven’t used the van, and only this week went to move it onto a new van I have purchased. Came to paying for moving it over and I mentioned that I was still off the road for another bit and could I add a named driver. The insurance company went and cancelled my policy backdated to the day I received the letter as I did not report it to them. This was a genuine mistake on my behalf, and I had previously told them that it would be coming I just didn’t know when. I have proof that the van has been parked in a yard not driving since the crash.
Currently the other vans I have are insured in another companies name and I am not named on these policies so my staff have no issue with driving to and from work in my company vans.
My question is, will I ever be able to get motor insurance for myself again? How will I go about it?
Any help would be appreciated!?
