Dividing Reins
Shall we two, together, into the saddle?
Riding our destinies out in parallel
Mounting, ever forward unto battle
Binding, entwining, as though in chapel?
What look you give, what glance we share
The sun’s dying rays, catching in your hair.
No distance too great to slow the hooves
Galloping, incessant, towards our unison.
What grave sacrifices does this behoove?
When joining, all that lies in possession.
It can not be, for all that dreams can wonder
Alas, never so, for we are torn asunder.
