Exclution

The tunnel opens with a mouth of glass.
A hush like moth-wings settles on my skin.
Their voices toll like bells beneath the sea.
I move through corridors of rust and hush.
A coal of anger smolders under bone.

Between the lamp-lit rooms and blue-lit screens,
I sit within a circle made of glass.
Their laughter passes like a distant train.
I learn the art of staying out of reach.
My life runs parallel, a quiet map.

Friday is shore; I taste its thin, brief light.
But Sunday folds me into iron tide.
The school becomes a ship with hollow oars.
Exclusion salts the mouth and dries the tongue.
I count the teeth of days until I'm home.
