Does Researching a Weapon/Trap Overwite Existing Schematics?

I've been trying out the new Research function and think it's pretty cool. However, with the items I've researched (Husk Stomper hammer and Flame Grill floor trap), they seem to be taking the place of those schematics I already had. I no longer have my original Husk Stomper schematic or original Flame Grill schematic.

Is that how this is supposed to work? If so, I'll probably be leaving the Research menu alone.
