Incapability of understanding things take time - common or not?
I've noticed a pattern of behaviour in the known-beyond-a-reasonable-doubt narcs in my family, namely my father and his mother, where they will seem unable to understand that the future isn't here yet.
So there will be criticism or surprise based on something taking time to accomplish. It is bizarre and hard to talk to them about since it seems to be a genuine incapability in their brains.
An example:
My father's mother visited every week when I was a kid. Most times I met her, she would start talking to me in French, seemingly expecting me to have absorbed French into my brain within the last 6 days. She was always genuinely shocked and disapproving when I hadn't become fluent in a second language nobody was teaching me each time she saw me.
Another one:
Every time I started eating healthier as a kid (side note; children should not be in charge of their own diets) my father would seem genuinely confused that I didn't become slim after 24 hours. This would upset him and he would take it out on me.
Or another example, is every time I've ever asked someone else for something or applied for anything, my father would be right there asking me if I would get it. And I have to sidestep the issue because explaining to a grown man that I can't tell the future or know how someone is going to respond unless I wait and see what they say is a bit ridiculous, and makes him upset. I mean, I sure hope that it works out, but if I knew how someone would respond before I asked them for something, I wouldn't need to ask, would I?
I wonder if this is a common thing people have noticed, or is it just my family? Potentially stemming from an incapability of withstanding uncertainty or putting in effort to reach a goal and expecting it to be complete immediately?
