Mini Rant ($$)
I don’t usually put my feelings on the internet but I’ve been on this sub so much for the last few months and don’t really talk about law school stuff with ppl irl cuz they’re not going through the same thing.
I’m a Canadian applicant who has always wanted to study/work in the states. This cycle I was T-14 or bust because I knew it would already be very difficult for me to move to the US and afford law school there. I was fortunate enough to receive offers from Cornell and Georgetown, and I was under the impression that I’d be studying in the US at a top tier school for almost the entire cycle.
Anyway I didn’t get nearly enough scholarship at either school to make it feasible to attend. My GPA was below median at both, mostly because I attended a program with massive grade deflation (they curved not dissimilarly to law school), which obviously reduced my merit aid. I get little to no need-based aid as an international student and nearly no Canadian government aid to study out of the country. Basically, I’d have to finance almost everything using loans. With CAD being so weak against USD, I’m looking at $400k CAD over 3 years of law school.
I decided to stay in Canada and I’m going to an excellent school here which I’m excited about. Just a little disappointed because I did everything I could to get to a T-14 and fell short at the last step.
