Does Checkpoint work with DS cartridges?

A week ago I tried it with my Pokemon Alpha Sapphire cartridge (both the backup and restore options) and it worked perfectly normal. So I can tell that it works with 3DS cartridges. But does it work with DS cartridges? I would like to do the same with my Pokemon Black one. I assume that it does, but I want to be certain before I accidentally brick my save.
