AITAH for leaving dinner after my girlfriend showed up 45 minutes late?

I’m 24M. I made dinner plans with my girlfriend (23F) at a restaurant we’ve both been wanting to try for a while. Nothing super fancy, but you still need a booking.

I booked it for 7:30pm and told her a few days in advance. On the day, I got there on time and messaged her to let her know I’d arrived.

7:30 came and went, no sign of her. No message either.

At around 7:40, I texted asking if she was close. She replied saying she was “on the way” but didn’t give a time. I waited another 15 minutes, and by that point the restaurant was getting busy and staff were clearly trying to manage tables.

At 8:00 (so 30 mins after the booking), I called her. She said she was still about 15 minutes away because she “lost track of time getting ready.”

At that point, I told her I was going to order without her because I was hungry and didn’t want to lose the table. She said fine.

By 8:15, she still wasn’t there, and I’d already eaten. I’d been sitting there alone for 45 minutes total, so I just paid for my meal and left.

She arrived shortly after and called me, upset, saying I’d embarrassed her by not being there and that I should have waited. She said it’s normal to wait for your partner and that I made her feel like she didn’t matter.

I said I’d already waited a long time with very little communication, and it felt disrespectful of my time. If she had told me properly she’d be that late, I might have planned differently.

Now she’s saying I overreacted and should’ve just stayed.

I feel like I was pretty patient already.

AITAH?
