i am in dire need of opinion apropos romance etiquette

this guy kissed me (first btw yaya) at the end of a stellar first date in order to see whether he thought we had chemistry or not?? As in hitherto, in his mind, we were just friends with potential. He decided we didn't have chemistry despite heavily complimenting the kiss and date ughgh.

so im really confused as to why he kissed me cus i thought it was like a thing youd do once you knew you liked a guy, though he has more experience than me so maybe i just dont get it???

was this like a douchey move from him or whatttt guys pls end my torment
