At what point do I just give up?

I’m in the middle of an EE degree, and I honestly don’t know if I should call it quits. The last two years have sadly been very hard for me, and I don’t know what to do. Being an engineer has been my dream since I was a little kid- my grandpa worked in aerospace prior to retirement and I knew I wanted a very similar path in life. That being said, I just failed another exam. My GPA is like a 2.7, I’m in counseling, and I just don’t know how much more I have to give towards this degree. I also don’t know what the alternative would even be.

I completely threw myself off course my freshman year and I don’t know how to recover, as it clearly is still impacting me in classes to this day. One of my very good friends died of suicide in the middle of last year (freshman year) and I was so depressed over it that for almost two weeks I didn’t go to class. Sure enough, classes and courses build on each other, as evidenced by the exam I got back today that was supposed to be “easy”. I would’ve been done with this all last year, but I’m in school on a scholarship (which is how I get housing) and if I drop out, I’m going back to a home I’m not welcome back to. I don’t know where I’d live or what I do if I drop the degree, but I also don’t know how I keep going. Maybe I was kidding myself to think I could do this, but now my entire life is tied into it and I don’t have options. If anyone has any advice or suggestions or anything, I’m willing to take it. I genuinely don’t even know what to do.
