Work permit

Hi there😊I came in New York about 2 weeks ago and just got married today🥰

Now I want to apply for SSN and work permit and AOS. But the guy at the office told us that I can work with only SSN, which I am being suspicious about.

I feel like I have to apply for work permit as well! Does it take long? And can I work with only SSN?
